THOM FOGARTY has been at
"it" since 1973, performing with many of the downtown NYC scene-makers of the 80's and 90's. He worked with Kinematic, Timothy Buckley, Jane Comfort, Yoshika Chuma, Peter Anastos, Janet Panetta, Ping Chong, Tamar Rogoff, Alice Farley, Anna Leo, Lawerance Goldhuber, Amy Rosen and Derek Burnstein, Eric Barsness, Laura Staton and many others. As a
choreographer created works with Joseph
Chaikin (of The
Living Theatre and founder of The Open Theatre), Paul Zimet (The Talking Band),
the Judson Poets Theater, DV8 Physical Theatre (London) and H.M. Koutoukas. His choreography and
performance work has been presented at OSUDance, Dance Theater Workshop, PS122, Jacob's Pillow, LaMaMaETC, Dixon Place, Joyce Soho, Joe's Pub @ The Public Theater, Judson Church, Duke University, and throughout Europe. He taught dance and theater craft in
Dusseldorf, Germany and Long Island University (Stony Brook).
His work, based in movement, has always dealt with the vastness of human conditions as told through the observance of small everyday gestures and their meanings. This movement vocabulary, which includes traditional miming, allows Thom to be both profane and profound at the same time, constantly creating a duality acknowledging the yin and yang in daily life.
He has to date designed all the elements of the work he has directed -costume, lighting and scenery. It all comes from his sense of "seeing the WHOLE production as one vision.
He directed the cabaret styled one-woman shows of Julie Kurnitz and Isabelle Thiele. Ms. Kurnitz work, CLINICAL TRIALS, was an original musical dealing with her life-long struggle living with Marfan Syndrome. He choreographed and performed in the 2007 and 2009 revivals of Al Carmines’ musicale CHRISTMAS RAPPINGS.
In 2010 he turned his energies to directing.
